Many people are focusing on the fact that dan Auerbach helped produced the album, causing songs to have a more "stripped down" sound focusing on guitars and drums.
I agree that this is a nice sound and it fits lana, but i can't help but miss the orchestra that accompied her voice for the whole of born to die and paradise. Yes there were some R&B-ish beats there but the focus was mainly on the strings and how they complimented her voice.
I love all the tracks that were released as singles. They are undoubtedly good and they showcase a new side of lana. (So now people can't call her a one trick pony anymore I guess? Haha)
The songs are (as usual) filled with raw emotion. And even if you never had the experiences she sings about, your heart can't help but ache with every word she sings.
On the album, my other favourites have to be
Money power glory
Old money
Fucked my way to the top
Black beauty
I also adore the west coast radio mix! I actually think it's way better than the original west coast *oops*
Overall, I know her songs aren't the best best best in the world, but I don't think that matters. What matters is that I like what she's singing, I like the background accompaniment, I like this new side of her. Her themes of lost love, longing, power and money whatever isn't relatable to majority (like what ahem ahem lorde ahem ahem said once) BUT WHO CARES? As long as music makes you feel emotion, to me it is good.
And ultraviolence is indeed good.
